Who We Are

Climate Impact ScoreTM is a program of the Climate Action Reserve, a pioneer in carbon accounting and the most experienced, trusted and efficient offset registry to serve the carbon markets. With deep roots in California and a reach across North America, the Reserve encourages actions to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and works to ensure environmental benefit, integrity and transparency in market-based solutions to address global climate change.

The Reserve operates the largest accredited registry for the California carbon market and has played an integral role in the development and administration of the state’s cap-and-trade program. In the past four years, Reserve projects have contributed $370M to an estimated $1.1B compliance market in terms of commodities issued to date. The Reserve has also managed and advised on the development of cap-and-trade programs for international jurisdictions.  For the voluntary market, the Reserve establishes high quality standards for carbon offset projects, oversees independent third party verification bodies and issues and tracks the transaction of carbon credits (Climate Reserve Tonnes) generated from such projects in a transparent, publicly-accessible system.

Starting from when it was originally launched as the California Climate Action Registry, the Reserve organization has over 15 years’ experience in developing regulatory-quality standards for carbon accounting and applying those standards to address climate change in a meaningful and impactful way.  Its standards and work are widely regarded as regulatory-quality, and the integrity, transparency and quality it brought to the carbon market helped establish offsets as a trusted tool for reducing GHG emissions.  The Reserve is bringing this same experience and reputation to bring transparency and confidence to investments that claim a positive climate impact.

The Climate Action Reserve is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.  To learn more about the organization’s work, please visit www.climateactionreserve.org.
